Fantazyas is a vocal and instrumental ensemble founded in 2000 by the singer and conductor Roberto Balconi. The ensemble cooperates with musicians and singers devoted to early music and baroque repertoire, with the aim of both presenting renowned music and rediscovering forgotten works. Fantazyas’ approach to music blends energy and proportion into a typical Italian style.
In its various formations (baroque orchestra, choir, chamber ensemble, madrigal ensemble), Fantazyas’ repertoire spans from opera (Handel’s Ariodante and Alceste, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Pergolesi’s Serva Padrona) to sacred music (Buxtehude’s cantatas; a reconstructed Vesper with music by Monteverdi; Bach’s motets; Stabat Mater settings by Pergolesi, Alessandro Scarlatti, Vivaldi; Purcell’s Funeral Music for Queen Mary; Handel’s Chandos Anthems; Mozart’s masses), from madrigal (Arcadelt, D’India, Monteverdi, Ghizzolo) to chamber music (Le Nuove Musiche, Caccini; duets by Steffani – recorded for ALM Records, Japan -, cantatas and duets by Handel and Scarlatti).
The group performed at several baroque festivals, such as Sastamala Gregoriana – Finland, Musashino Civic Cultural Hall – Tokyo, Felicia Blumenthal Festival – Tel Aviv, Musica e Poesia a San Maurizio – Milan, Echi Lontani – Cagliari, Festival Cusiano di Musica Antica – Novara.
Fantazyas made the first recording of Giovanni Ghizzolo’s Il secondo libro de Madrigali, released by Brilliant Classics.
